Guidelines for Comments

Raising Race Conscious Children aims to create supportive environment for parents and educators working to actively challenge racism. As such, comments will be moderated and approved only if they meet the following guidelines:

  • Respectful comments only, please. Blog authors are sharing personal conversations with their children in order to create an online resource for ongoing conversation.
  • Comments that, at their core, simply disagree with the basic premise of Raising Race Conscious Children, will not be approved as we are committed to building a space for parents and educators who want to talk about race with their children.

Research shows that talking explicitly about race with children creates more positive attitudes about people of different races. A key premise of this blog is that naming race (and other social realities) can support people to be race conscious (as opposed to “color blind”). At Raising Race Conscious Children, we believe that talking about race does not reinforce racism. For more information, please refer to: https://raceconscious.org/about-the-blog/

  • Remember—no single blog post speaks to every concern about a particular topic.

Be mindful that some blog posts reflect conversations that take place in a private setting (as opposed to a public setting). The words one uses in the privacy of her/his home versus in public may sound different.
